Advisory Committee on Technology (CATEC)
 Chairman: Coletano Benigno de Abreu Neto
Technical Secretary: Enrique Doro
Objectives:

 

  • Created to provide a forum for the exchange of technological information and development, it has focused on furthering the technological exchange among companies.

  • It aims at promoting favorable conditions for the development of trade and new applications, technical studies that may lead to determining the optimum performance for steel plants, synergies, mutual cooperation, and transfer of technology among Latin American steel companies. To that end, it organizes meetings and seminars, edits publications, etc.
 
Advisory Committee on Promotion and Development of Steel Uses (CAPDUA)
Chairman: Patricio Rojas
Technical Secretary: Catia Mac Cord Coelho
Objectives:  
  • Make steel an efficient alternative for each application, based on a strong technical support; develop and disseminate innovations in steel uses.

  • Collaborate with the activities of companies, institutes, and chambers on the promotion of steel use in Latin America, coordinating them in synergy, in order to achieve a better positioning of steel in its applications.

  • To fulfill these objectives, it develops a series of tasks oriented to the edition of publications that promote steel construction and its sustainability, teaching aid programs in Metallic Construction, economic studies on alternative design, dissemination of innovations, among others.
 
Advisory Committee on Environmental Issues (CADIMA)
Technical Secretary: Flora Otero
Objectives:  
  • Among its objectives are: Promoting the image of the steel industry as a producer of fully recyclable materials; providing information on experiences related to environmental problems, their impact, and the way they have or are being addressed; facilitating the knowledge of laws on environmental protection in different industrialized and developing countries, with special emphasis on the issues of the sector.

  • The abovementioned objectives have been the topics of technical assistance, publications, meetings, work groups on standardization and cooperation with other national and international organizations, such as the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and interactions related to the Montreal Protocol, the Basel Convention, the Convention on Climate Change, the Kyoto Protocol, etc.
 
International Trade Group (GCI)
Chairman:  Rafael Rubio
 Technical Secretary: Carmen Silva
Objectives:  
  • Since its creation, its role has been to promote steel trade at a regional level.

  • It actively condemns international unfair trade practices, as well as those anti-WTO arbitrary antidumping measures, countervailing duties, or safeguard measures.

  • It provides a guide on the most relevant parameters for steel trade among ILAFA country and company members, by way of the publication of statistics, projections, and new market access opportunities.

  • It assists the Board of Directors on policies to be adopted to address the actions that may affect the interests of the regional steel industry, as well as attending, when necessary, those international fora where those interests are to be defended.
 
Advisory Committee on Statistics and Markets (CAEME)
Chairman: Nicolás Izquierdo
Objectives:  
  • Provide timely, trustworthy, and highly value added information to its members.

  • Generate a synergy network for the cooperation, exchange, and supply of data among the national steel institutes to provide statistical information to ILAFA, which in turn processes and distributes it among its members.

  • Work strongly wit the IISI on an interactive work program for the development of new systems of information on statistical trends for the short, medium, and long term, compatible with the methodology of experts in econometric projections.
